AI Test Generation

Flowguard can turn a plain-language description into ready-to-run test steps. Instead of clicking through your site or hand-picking selectors, you describe what you want to test and the AI builds the flow for you.

What it can do

  • Generate steps from a natural-language prompt (e.g. "fill out the contact form and submit it")
  • Produce real, working selectors based on the actual page
  • Read JavaScript-rendered forms (e.g. WS Form) whose fields aren't in the raw HTML, by looking at the page as it's rendered in the live preview
  • Refine, extend, or fix the generated steps through a chat conversation

Setup

AI Test Generation needs an API key from an AI provider. You bring your own key, and requests are billed by that provider.

1. Get an API key

Choose a provider and create an API key:

2. Add it in Flowguard

  1. Go to Flowguard → Settings → Advanced
  2. In the AI Integration section, choose your Provider (Anthropic or OpenAI)
  3. Pick a Model:
    • Anthropic: Claude Sonnet 4 (default), Claude Opus 4, Claude Haiku 4
    • OpenAI: GPT-4o, GPT-4o Mini, GPT-4.1, GPT-4.1 Mini
  4. Paste your API key
  5. Save

The key is stored encrypted in your database and is never written into flow definitions or exports.

Which model?

Claude Sonnet 4 (the default) is a good balance of quality and cost. Use a "mini"/Haiku model for cheaper, faster generation, or Opus/GPT-4.1 for the trickiest pages.

Using it

  1. Open a flow in the Flow Editor
  2. Click the AI button to open the AI Assistant sidebar
  3. Describe what you want to test in plain language
  4. Review the suggested steps and click to apply them
  5. Keep chatting to refine or add more steps

Let the page load first

For the AI to "see" a form, open the page in the live preview so it's fully rendered, then ask the AI to generate steps. This is what lets it work with JavaScript-rendered forms.

Good to know

  • Your key, your bill. Requests go to your chosen provider using your API key — usage is billed by them, not by Flowguard.
  • Review before running. The AI is a fast starting point, not a guarantee. Always review the generated steps, especially selectors and assertions.
  • No key, no AI. Without a configured API key the AI button will prompt you to add one in Settings → Advanced.
